"Shady deals” he does not want to be involved with make Roddi leave his position as an apprentice in a big enterprise, in spite of the unemployment. He wants to do something else, something related to woodcrafts, but the carpenter he wishes to be is not the one industry demands. He starts to go frequently to the “Waiting Room”, the small bar where he meets friends and where he is able to forget.
He is looking forward to receive a positive answer to his 17 application letters, which he sent to many other wood-related business, applying for a position as an apprentice. When he got the last negative answer and Tina, the girl he is in love with, distances, Roddi lost all his hopes and he falls into alcoholism.
"Waiting room is one of those interesting, sensible novels that show the kind of situations and characters that makes the reader be aware of what is happening to other people, or to ourselves… and what is happening is something really serious that must be taken into account” (Pablo Barrena in Diario de Teruel).
