Michèlle Nikly was born in 1956 in Constantine (Algeria). Her childhood took place between Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. Already in France, she established herself in Lyion together with her family and she studied at L'École des Beaux Art. She married Jean Clavérie, a man she met during her studies at that institution, and she worked in advertisement. But in 1977, when she was pregnant with her first child, both of them created together their first book. She got caught by the world of books and, since then, she has been writing stories and, sometimes, illustrating and translating them. In 1982, she writes and illustrates her first Japanese tale, Le Prunier, which was son followed by others. Together with his husband, she has written several books, but is L'art de... series the one that she loves most, because of her shared memories. The art of the potty is her first and maybe her best book in this series.
